Definition of simplicity:

Simplicity means…

1. Unity of heart and singleness of purpose (Matt 6: 22)



2. Joy in God’s good creation - Oscar Wilde once said that people do not value sunsets because they cannot pay for them. Not so for us!



3. Contentment and trust (Phil. 4: 6)



4. Freedom from covetousness (Acts 20: 33)



5. Modesty and temperance in all things – our lives should be marked by voluntary abstinence in the midst of extravagant luxury (Titus 1:8)



6. To receive material provision gratefully - We are not rigid ascetics who cannot abide a land flowing with milk and honey. Rather, we rejoice in these gracious provisions from the heart of God.



7. Using money without abusing money – We use money within the confines of a properly disciplined spiritual life.



8. Availability - We have the time and energy to response to human need.



9. Giving joyfully and generously (2 Cor. 8: 5)

Richard Foster’s 10 Controlling Principles on our attitudes towards money:
